monthly wrapups & updates

hello!

Since my last newsletter I have mostly been sitting inside in the cold winter weather. But also I did Auckland Armageddon! It was fun. I did make a small child cry by showing her my teeth in my Blue cosplay. (whoops).

a couple tiktoks: my table / day 1 sales (I gave up after day 1)

My next events are:

Wellington Zinefest: July 26

Palmerston North Armageddon: August 2-3

and later in the year:

Great Games With Pals: Oct 4-5

Spring Armageddon: October 24-27

New Art!

I drew a bunch of alpine bugs (etc)! They're half things I've seen many times and half things I looked up (shoutout inaturalist & rnz critteroftheweek)

I also made this into a little zine, with all the names. I made one for the ocean creatures one too!

I did some little doodles of Bador & Moku from The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport by Samit Basu! It's a great cyberpunk book with some little gay robots. This is the most tells-you-nothing-about-the-vibe-of-the-book kind of art, I just had the sketches sitting around for a couple years and wanted to finish them....

I read The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling and an arc of the rerelease of Pantomime by L.R. Lam and did a few doodles of some of the characters. hopefully I will have time to do some proper fanart soooon. I have plans.

Here's the cover I designed for Painted Flock by Claudie Arsenseault!

It's been 7 years since I did the Baker Thief cover, which was....pretty much the first book I ever designed? Along with the fact that this is a sequel, but following different characters and with a different tone and focus - it was a challenge! But I think it turned out pretty good.

Here's the full hardcover jacket:

It's not so new, but I finally posted all the art I did for the Monster Girlfriend special edition - notably the endpapers pattern and little bunny stamp which I haven't posted properly before. It's a very pretty book with contributions from a bunch of other artists too!

Something very exciting is that I've been working with Kingdom of Threads on some officially licensed merch collections!

Two designs for the Dragonfall collection are live right now - and there's 3 more + a bookmark design that'll be in the full launch which I believe is in August. (and I'm working on a collection for a different queer dragon book, so look forward to that!)

It's been a while but I have been making a bunch of new bookmarks! They're not available yet, but here's a preview.....

I'll be ordering them soon, I'll probably have them around the end of the month, or early August.

I also made a post on tumblr with a bit of my process - my initial sketches for most designs, and also my graphs of my sales at events! If you want to see some of that + ramblings about how I decide what designs to make.

I've been making more zines in preparation for zinefest - printing lots of last year's ones, but also some new things! I'm capable of making So Many different forms of book rec zine, you don't even know. Books That I Am Completely Abnormal About is a page each of rambles + my art of a few of books that I love (the ones I've done lots of art about, I guess). You can see all the pages here on tumblr.

I'm also making some zines inspired by how people at cons always look at my bookmarks and say wow those bookmarks are so cool but I don't read. called wow those bookmarks are so cool but I don't read

(just little lists of books matching my bookmarks - one for the fungi, one for the swords/daggers, one for the book spines, mayyybe one that's a little selection of each + books to get back into reading?)

Online store...

My Murderbot stickers & bookmarks are all in stock - when I launched the stickers I didn't quite realise I only had like 20 bookmarks left, whoops. I have 150 in stock now. They're not selling out any time soon.

I've also got both Kārearea stickers back in stock, the larger design was gone for a while! I printed a couple stickers of my Moku & Bador art above as well. Truly just one each for myself but I can make them on demand if anyone ever wants them.

I have sticker sheets of my alpine creatures! There's also a bunch of b-grades, since I was having printer troubles, if you want some cheaper slightly misaligned or smudged ones.

I had a silly thought and made some packaging for my Hollow stickers (and made a little Kamen to go with it too).

That is all! My store will be closed for the events mentioned above, but otherwise it's open for the next few months.
