monthly wrapups & updates

Hello!

Here's what I've been up to in the last month and also yes I finally have my new bookmarks

Events

I did two events recently! Winter Zinefest was fun, I enjoyed trading zines for miscellaneous items.

And just last weekend Kez & I did palmerston north armageddon! For the first time - also our first time doing an out of town con where we weren't staying with friends/relatives. It was pretty good, a bit slow on sunday but I wasn't bored on account of Directly Facing Just Dance. (which was actually less unbearable than I was bracing myself for - lots of variety in song choice. maybe a little too much Timber).

We also went to visit our art at Wildbase again :) here's a little tiktok vlog

I am also going to be at Bookmark Kāpiti next Sunday! No idea what that'll be like but I thought my bookmarks might be a hit. because. bookmark. idk

(I think I might be the only non author/publisher stall, haha)

Other upcoming events:

Newtown Market - 6 September

Great Games With Pals - 4/5 October

(I will not be doing wellington zinefest in because it's on the same weekend as GGWP! But they're within walking distance and I will have zines with me at GGWP)

Auckland Armageddon - 24-27 October

New Art

I read an arc of The Isle In The Silver Sea by Tasha Suri and it was soooo perfect for me. I wandered around in a daze for 5 hours and then sat down and drew 90% of this art in one go (easy enough when it's a redraw, I didn't have to think much)

It's of course based on The Meeting on the Turret Stairs, which is a different flavour of doomed tragic lovers* but definitely reminded me of them. (*Isle definitely has a happy ending lol, the doomed narrative is what they start in. don't worry.)

Aaand I also did some art of The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling (can we sense a theme). This was just meant to be character designs but then I added a bit of a background.... I do want to do a more horror-vibes narrative illustration of them at some point, if I get a clearer idea. I do have another piece of fanart for it that I will post soon too...

Also a few sketches:

A new zine I made! I drew a couple of these over summer purely because I saw some creatures while swimming and obviously didn't have a camera with me. then I figured I could make it into a zine and drew a few more..

For some strange reason the art (with the salps as the cover) has gone somewhat viral on instagram (for me, anyway). I am very confused???? sure????

Some other new zines I made: paparoa fungi (just photos in rainbow order) and these bookmark ones.

and something a little different: I illustrated the stenciled edges for Owlcrate's July book, A Forbidden Alchemy. I think they turned out pretty good!

I extended the background of one of my new bookmark designs that you'll see below....

Online Store

At long last, I have new bookmarks!!!!

There's two new swords, two spooky books, and two sciencey books - though I ended up getting both colour versions of the ice. I'll probably only restock which of those sells better.

I definitely have a big rainbow of the book spine designs now!

I added some of my new zines to my store, too -

I have a few new art prints - They Bloom At Night and The Starving Saints, and I restocked The Space Between Worlds & The Scapegracers (now with both versions of sideways' hair - long or shaved)

There's just 2 of each of all of these (except The Starving Saints, since I can print that at home).

I hid the handmade paper listing after zinefest but I've finally counted them and put that back up!

Cosplay

I've posted a few new shoots recently!

First is a Lirael library shoot! This was actually from 2024. We went around 3 bookstores in the city to get all the library-ish vibes possible. Photos by havecamerawillsnap

And this shoot from February - I had a very specific vision, actually inspired by some of the photographer's very messy fake-blood shoot (which I couldn't use because it would stain my cosplay), but I used some peely paint to make some blood drips and it turned out SO good.

(thankfully I managed to find the single final pomegranate in wellington after going to 7 supermarkets)

I have one more pair of Red + Blue shoots that I will start posting very soon :)
